About the Beer

One of the most important days of the year to Links Brewing Company is October 10th. On that day, we celebrate the birthday of David Becker, our founder’s father. While he is no longer with us, his legacy is the driving force behind the brewery. He taught us that when we leave this world, may our only regret be the family and friends we will miss. This is what success in life meant to him, and it’s what it means to us.

On October 10, 2019, we brewed Links 1010 for the first time, on what would have been David’s 80th birthday. The beer, a stout, was designed with him in mind. Once the beer was finished fermenting, we transferred it to a bourbon barrel where we let it age for an entire year. On October 10, 2020, we shared the beer for the first time with our friends and family. We also brewed the beer again. Every year moving forward, we intend to release the beer from the previous year and brew it again on October 10th.

The beer is rich with flavors of chocolate, bourbon and cherries. At 14% it makes for a fun evening! The concept behind the beer was influenced by David’s love for a Manhattan at the end of a long day. We are excited to share this special beer with all of you.

About David J. Becker

David was born in Pittsburgh on 10/10/1939. He was a larger than life, beloved figure in the community. He attended The University of Notre Dame. He sailed the high seas as an officer in the U.S. Navy. He was an avid collector of Lionel Trains. He successfully grew a family business, Pittsburgh Fire Extinguisher, Inc. until 1992. He married the love of his life and had two sons he adored. To him, he had achieved it all. His only regret would be the friends and family he’d miss when he was gone. In his honor we age this stout in a whisky barrel — a tribute to David’s favorite drink, a Manhattan. We affectionately call it the “Ten-Ten.”
